Description

This colorful, information packed retractable display is a perfect way to present the dangers of underage drinking. Directed at middle and high schoolers, the display will leave a lasting impression.

It begins by addressing the misconception that drinking alcohol is not a big deal. Among people ages 12 to 20, alcohol is the most commonly abused drug. It also causes over 5,000 deaths in people 21 and under each year. Alcohol is dangerous, addictive, and it frequently acts as a gateway drug. Underage drinkers are more likely to try tobacco and illicit drugs.

Underage drinkers will find themselves experiencing alcohol’s many negative physical side effects:

It impairs coordination, impacts reasoning ability and reaction time, causes brain damage, and can lead to anxiety and depression. Nausea and vomiting, a slower heart rate, memory loss, and death from alcohol poisoning are other possible effects due to alcohol. Underage drinking can have long lasting and far reaching consequences.

Being convicted of driving under the influence is another issue that arises from underage drinking. Drunk driving is the #1 killer of people under 21. And many states have no tolerance for underage drinking and driving. It can lead to a suspended license, jail time, fines, community service, and more. It will also create a criminal record, which can negatively affect school and career choices for years to come.

Alcohol abuse may result in unplanned pregnancy, unprotected sex, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as other risky sexual decisions.

Binge Drinking:

Binge drinking is defined as rapidly consuming four or more drinks. The majority of underage drinkers binge drink. With that in mind, these drinkers are 14 times more likely to drive drunk. This excessive alcohol intake can cause alcohol poisoning, liver disease, and even death.

Underage drinkers are more likely to develop alcohol dependence or abuse issues later in life. But when young people make the smart choice to stay away from alcohol, they can minimize their risk. Teachers, counselors, and other trusted adults are available to provide help for those underage drinkers who want to quit.
