Chlamydia afflicts some three million Americans a year. Moreover, the majority occurring in women under 25. Most people infected with chlamydia have no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they may not appear until weeks later. So most people do not seek treatment or take measures to prevent its further spread. It warns that untreated chlamydia can cause subsequent inflammatory conditions in the genitals of both sexes. It can cause serious, permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. Moreover, it is capable of rendering both victims sterile.
The text concludes with recommendations for preventing the disease. Such as: abstaining from sex, restricting sex to a single uninfected partner and using a condom. Since the infection is often asymptomatic, an annual medical test for chlamydia is also recommended.
