Description

E-cigarettes have seen a surge in popularity over the past several years. Endorsed by celebrities, they are frequently touted as a good way to quit smoking or as an alternative to smoking. And while famous faces may make these products more appealing, those interested in trying e-cigarettes may want to wait until more facts are in. This vaping presentation display is designed to educate consumers on the facts about e-cigarettes, helping them to make informed decisions.

It begins by explaining how e-cigarettes work: a battery charged heating element turns flavored liquid into vapor, which is then inhaled. Using an e-cigarette is also known as “vaping.” The ingredients of the vapor usually include propylene glycol, glycerin, or a combination of the two. The liquid inside the e-cigarette may include nicotine as well as different types of flavoring.

Nicotine, in and of itself, is a dangerous drug. Not only is it highly addictive but it can cause elevated blood pressure, an increased heart rate, shortness of breath, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and fever.

The rapidity with which e-cigarettes have become popular has made it difficult for research to keep up. The long-term effects of using them is still unknown. But we do know that e-cigarettes are not presently regulated. Some e-cigarettes labeled as nicotine-free have been found to contain nicotine. Nicotine chambers may leak, which increases the risk of nicotine poisoning. Potentially harmful ingredients have been found in some e-cigarette liquid. While e-cigarettes don’t contain tar, their vapor contains nanoparticles, which when inhaled may lead to asthma, stroke, diabetes, and heart disease.

E-cigarettes are not FDA-approved cessation devices. Current studies have shown mixed results. While some individuals have been able to quit using e-cigarettes, others become addicted to e-cigarettes instead. And still others continue to smoke regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes, which only serves to increase their nicotine dependence. Smokers interested in quitting will make a safer choice if they opt to use FDA-approved Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs) like nicotine gum, patches, or lozenges.

More and more young people are using e-cigarettes, which may open the door to nicotine addiction. E-cigarettes’ popularity may also serve to make smoking popular again. And as e-cigarettes come in dozens of flavors, from traditional tobacco flavors to sweet flavors like chocolate and cappuccino, they may be more tempting to young people. New e-cigarette users may develop a nicotine addiction, which may lead them to start using traditional tobacco products. And a nicotine addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to kick.

The display concludes by urging individuals not to try e-cigarettes, especially if they’re non-smokers. It also advises smokers who are interested in quitting to seek out other, more established quit methods.
